I begin by researching the subject matter and rework the design so that its most appealing features are accentuated, while at the same time, I find a balance in the “design simplicity” so children are encouraged to use their imagination as they explore new ways of play.

Next, time is spent sourcing the finest hardwoods available, in both domestic and exotic species. This is perhaps the most important step in my toy-making process as the chosen wood needs to not only be of heirloom quality, but it should withstand years of play.

Just like a sketch, I carve, cut, and chisel away bits of wood until a rough form appears. Once I’m happy with the general shape, I start working on the smaller parts.

Delicately, I go back and continue to refine the sculpted piece with any additional details. I make sure that every carved line and curve in the wood is intentional and brings life and character to the piece.

My products are paint-free, and I never use pigments of any kind on the wood. To bring out the wood’s natural beauty, I only use certified organic materials such as food-grade natural oils, water-based coatings, and waxes. These products are “kid friendly”. They’re safe, and free of harmful substances.
